Who is Thad?

Thad is a Cedar Falls native, father of two, Layna and Tripton, husband to Alissa, and former basketball standout at Cedar Falls High school and Wartburg College.  He is a 20 year veteran of teaching, coaching, and personal training.  He is a passionate teacher and advocate of individuals with special needs as an adaptive PE teacher at River Hills School where he has taught since 2016.  

In the fall of 2016, he was hired to join the Cedar Falls Boys Basketball team to lead team workouts as a basketball skills trainer specializing in sport- specific strength training, speed and agility development, in-season yoga/breathing recovery, and mindset training. 

Since 2016, he has worked with many collegiate athletes including professional athletes AJ Green(Milwaukee Bucks) and Jack Campbell (Detroit Lions). In addition, he played a meaningful role in the teams back to back state championships in 2018 and 2019 by incorporating yoga, breathwork, and visualization into team workouts.

Thad has practiced, developed, and taught his personal awareness strategies and techniques using meditation and intentional breathwork since 2012. Thad offers valuable insight and knowledge to the local community, businesses, school districts, and many other organizations such as ‘Americans for Independent Living’ and ‘Disabled American Veterans’. He offers workshops and experiences throughout the community, and Iowa,  to help others benefit from breathwork and mindfulness practices.

At the height of the pandemic, struggling with anxiety and impending depression, Thad began performing the Wim Hof breathing technique followed by cold immersion sessions in ice baths, freezing rivers, and shirtless hikes on cold February mornings.

He began to realize the heightened power of the breath, and found something outside himself he never thought he’d like, THE COLD AS THERAPY!

In addition to providing breathwork and mindset workshops in the community,  he guides people through breathing exercises followed by cold immersion ice baths and river plunges around the Cedar Valley. He helps people shift their frenzy in the cold to a calm relaxed mind and body into the ‘Power of Now’ so they can attack life with more resilience, willpower, and purposeful awareness.
